A lithium polymer battery, or more correctly, lithium-ion polymer battery (abbreviated as LiPo, LIP, Li-poly, lithium-poly, and others), is a rechargeable battery of lithium-ion technology using a polymer electrolyte instead of a liquid electrolyte.
Key Features to a Li-Po Battery
High Energy Density: LiPo batteries offer a higher energy density compared to other lithium battery types, meaning they can store more energy for their size and weight.
Flexibility: The polymer electrolyte allows for greater flexibility in battery shape and size, making them suitable for various applications.
High Discharge Rate: LiPo batteries can deliver power quickly, making them ideal for applications requiring high power output.
what is the C rating for?
The C rating dictates how much current the Li-Po can supply under max load. Here is how the math works.
Example: 1000mah Li-Po with 30C rating can provide up to 30 amps of current. A 1000mah Li-Po with 50C rating can provide 50 amps of current. A 5000mah Li-Po with a 10C rating could provide 50 amps of current.
Warning!
LiPo batteries can also be discharged at higher rates, which means they can provide more power for applications that require it. The main disadvantage of LiPo batteries is that they can be dangerous if not used properly. LiPo batteries can catch fire if they are overheated or damaged
